Stop Drinking Alcohol

Young people have the most impressionable brains. With a yearning to experience the world and a desire to grow up, they can easily fall victims to many misguided and false beliefs. One such notion is the assertion that drinking alcohol will make your life more exciting.

Since most people think that maturity is achieved if you can get through the night with more than five bottles and still not throw up, it’s impossible not to see why many teenagers don’t even think about the dangers of alcohol consumption. So when the bell of the last class on a Friday rings, most rush home to find out if the planned party is still good to go. These parties are mostly run by alcohol. Binge drinking is the policy, teenagers are determined that no one break that rule. If someone so much as suggests to them to stop drinking, their defences shoot up and the person making the suggestion becomes alienated and shut out.

Binge drinking is the term used to refer to heavy drinking done in just one day. Most countries’ health departments say that heavy drinking means the intake of more than five drinks, successively. In a world where alcohol is as accessible as a bottle of shampoo, binge drinking is not the hardest thing.

The statistics of teens that binge drink is increasing by the minute. What was perceived as disturbing ten years ago has multiplied ten times, today. What’s even more disturbing, though, is the fact that a great part of the statistics are contributed by people who are under the legal drinking age.

Teenagers have a variety of reasons for drinking. There are those who are plain curious, excited how beer would taste. Then there are some who, fed up with the complications of their family lives, have decided to take out their frustrations on the world, and to heck with the consequences. And then we have the ones who want to feel more sophisticated, thus the fake ids. But whatever the reason or however valid it may sound, all of them would fall on alcohol’s deaf ears.

Binge drinking teenagers must be aware that when they party too hard, they will not only subject themselves to a brutal hangover the next day, they would also start a destructive process. Drinking alcohol will slow down a person’s rational tendencies and it will pave the way for totally stupid, regrettable decisions. A teenager’s developing organs may not have the chance to fully develop since alcohol can poison them early and put a stop to all functions. And a life will be at stake. Granted, it may not be the teenager’s own, but when it comes to drinking, one’s life is always on the line.
