In the selection of treatment centers, one must be thoroughly decisive and informed, as selecting the wrong treatment center would leave the alcohol addict unsuccessfully treated and even hostile to possible future treatments.

Provided and discussed in the following paragraphs are very essential considerations in selecting a high-quality rehab center. First consideration is the set of treatments offered by the treatment center. In the several means and processes being implemented, the treatment must be best suited and acceptable to the patient. His/her medical and physiological condition, personal considerations, religious and cultural preferences must all be respected and given importance. Specifically, some treatment centers offer 12 step programs and a number has offered methods tied to faith and spirituality.

Further, is the treatment and dedication of the attending staff. The treatment center must be selected carefully to ensure that the patient’s treatment shall be seen through until its success or utter failure, and not midway. Preferably, the patient must be assisted on a one-on-one basis by assisting counsellors and medical staff. If not, a personal and professional dedication must be seen being given to the patient. If otherwise, where maltreatment or even apathy is shown the patient, he or she would not consider returning to therapy, thus making him relapse or return to his alcohol addiction. As the stay in a rehab is a mentally and physically taxing, the attending staff should make sure that the experience and stay is comfortable for the patient.

Next consideration is the location of the alcohol treatment center. It should be far and distant from where the patient cannot have access or be attempted to drink alcohol. On the other hand, it should also be near to the point that family and loves ones can frequently visit and check the progress of the patient. Treatment cannot always be carried alone by the patient, but requires the continuous care, love, and support of family and loved ones.

These centers perform the treatment aiming at the complete recovery of the addict. This is not enough however, as several factors are also necessary. After admission or confinement to the alcohol treatment center, it is followed by further necessary steps for alcohol detox, counselling sessions, educational classes, behavioural therapy, yoga and meditation, apart from necessary medication for severe alcoholism cases. Family involvement is also part of the treatment as they handle the patient once alcohol detox at the center is over.
