Alcohol Dependency

Alcohol dependency has no one single major cause. It is intertwined with different problems and comes out as a result of various social issues. It becomes a need then to ask the right questions regarding why alcohol dependency occurs especially on teenagers.

The first question to ask is why do teenagers drink and get drunk? The act of drinking one or six bottles a night is different from getting drunk almost every week. The question is then altered to why do teenagers feel the need to get intoxicated?

It is without a doubt that teenagers face a lot of pressure in their daily life. There could be problems in the family, at school and with peers. But we also understand that the stress and pressure is not the reason why they get intoxicated. Each individual experiences stress and daily pressures from daily living all the time which is why we find no direct reason why some teenagers resort to alcohol dependency.

It can be noted that during teenage years there is a lot of restlessness that is felt by teens. They feel a surge of energy inside of them that they have to project somewhere. One of the reasons why they can easily fall prey to alcohol dependency is when they are unable to project this restlessness into something creative and meaningful to do.

Teenagers are still finding out who they are. They are still in a developmental process and they are on the experimental stage as well. Most of them have not completely understood yet what life means just yet and what they must do. This is why it becomes easy for them to get lost in partying and drinking all night.

Many of them have not found out a way to establish what they want in life. The main goal can then become the sole seeking of pleasure. Most the time, however, they only end up gaining pleasure without actually enriching their belief system.

Moreover, most teenagers who have alcohol dependency are unable to focus or do well in any field. The inability to become sober causes them to lose a grip on certain aims and good direction in life. One good example is Lindsay Lohan. Her ability to focus on certain goals and achieve them without alcohol dependency has gradually decreased. Once focus is lost, the ability to decide and complete an action successfully can become more and more of a challenge. This in turn can become a restrictive phrase for any teenager. Instead of developing, they can start depending on a substance to make them feel confident and worthy.

On the contrary, every person has the capacity to become great. Every teenager has the ability to do well in life. But in order to do this, they must first learn how to cope with stress and environmental factors. If a teenager can manage to use every experience for their own gain, then they can reach what they have been aiming for.

Alcohol dependency is more of a mind battle. Once a person sees that they are in control of their choices and decisions, and once they understand what those decisions can lead them, they can become better.
